Colorful flower arrangements to brighten someone's day
There's a special kind of happiness in a mixed arrangement. Hot pink beside orange, sunny yellow against a clear blue, a flick of purple tucked in where you don't expect it: flowers like these don't need an occasion to explain them. Set one on a table and the whole room seems to lift. That's what makes colorful flower arrangements such an easy choice for a birthday, a get-well wish, a thank-you or a job well done, and a welcome sight in any office.
A good mix isn't loud from edge to edge. Bold colors look their best with softer ones beside them, so each has room to breathe. Eliana, our best seller, shows how it works: hot pink roses sit among blush cymbidium orchids, white lisianthus and hydrangea in a leaf-lined glass cube, vivid and romantic at once. Erly Riser does it in warmer tones, moving from peach-orange roses to flame-orange calla lilies, with gerbera daisies and cymbidium orchid accents, like a sunrise gathered into a bouquet.
Radiance, bright yellow set off with blue, is a cheerful thing to wake up to when someone is on the mend. For a birthday, Kaleidoscope brims with lilies and lively seasonal blooms, and High Magic glows with orange-red roses and hypericum berries. Good Vibes and Field of Dreams are happy hand-tied bouquets in pink and purple, the second with a flash of orange. For a desk that wants a little sunshine, Petit Soleil lives up to its name: yellow orchid accents and warm pincushion blooms against cool green hydrangea.
Each of these is made to order, by hand, in the shop Jerome Florists has run at Madison Avenue and 96th Street since May 1929. Flowers arrive five days a week, fresh from the United States, Holland, Italy and South America, and when a stem doesn't measure up, we replace it with a flower in the same colors and of equal or greater value, so the mix keeps its balance. And if lilies aren't welcome where the flowers are going, put a line in your order note; any design here can be made without a single one.
Our own drivers take these designs to homes and offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens seven days a week. It's $15 to a Manhattan address and $25 to Brooklyn or Queens, and pickup at the shop is free. Sending them today? Manhattan orders placed by 3 PM can go out the same day (by 1 PM for an office or a hospital); later than that, phone 212-289-1677 and we'll check what can still go out. Every order carries your message on a printed card at no charge, or in handwriting on request (past 150 characters, a handwritten message is $15).
Questions we hear a lot
Can you make a design with more of someone's favorite color?
We'll try. Write the colors you'd like more of, or less of, in your order note, or call 212-289-1677. We'll shape the design around your wishes as far as that week's flowers allow.
Which colorful arrangements suit a birthday?
Kaleidoscope and High Magic both bring a party's worth of color, and Erly Riser, all peach and flame orange, is a joyful bouquet to send. You'll find plenty more in our birthday collection.
What colorful flowers are good for get-well wishes?
Radiance, in bright yellow and blue, is a sunny place to start, and our get-well collection has more. For a hospital, include the room number and wing. We can't deliver without a room number, and we confirm with the hospital before we deliver. Our hospital delivery guide lists each hospital's rules.
Will my arrangement look like the photo?
In its colors and overall style, yes, though not always stem for stem. Flowers come and go with the seasons, so if one in the picture isn't at its peak, something in the same colors, of equal or greater value, takes its place, and exact tones can vary a little. Orchids are the exception: we never substitute them.
Can you help me choose?
Gladly. Our Floral Advisor begins by asking when you need the flowers, then points you to designs that fit. Or call 212-289-1677, ask for Peter or Constantine, and describe who you're sending to: the colors they love, the moment you're marking. They can suggest a design from the site, or put together one that's not on it.
